Employees Want Higher Wages More than Better Health Benefits, Survey Finds
SAN ANTONIO, Sept. 12, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Sixty-three percent of employees in America prefer receiving a bigger paycheck over better health benefits, according to the 2018 "Getting Paid In America" survey conducted by the American Payroll Association (APA) for National Payroll Week.
"Employees in America should never have to choose between their financial health or their physical health," said Dan Maddux executive director of the APA. "This is why during National Payroll Week, we educate employees on ways they can work with payroll to get the most from each paycheck."
During National Payroll Week (NPW), the APA helps employees better understand ways they can get more from their paychecks without making sacrifices in other areas, such as their health benefits. Individuals can visit the National Payroll Week website to access paycheck maximizing tools and resources.
"Payroll is uniquely positioned to have a significant impact on the overall employee experience," said Carrie Norden, vice president of payroll services for Kronos Incorporated. "Modern payroll solutions present a valuable opportunity to engage and empower the entire workforce and ensure payroll is processed accurately, efficiently, and on-time."
The annual APA survey asked, "What's more important to you, better health benefits or higher wages?" More than 19,000 respondents, 63 percent, indicated higher wages are more important than health benefits. This number remains consistent with 2017 survey results for the same question.
The "Getting Paid In America" survey was held in conjunction with the APA's annual public awareness campaign NPW, September 3-7. Over 34,000 individuals responded to the survey, providing insight into how employees are paid in America.
