REDMOND, Wash., Sept. 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Who says exercise can't be fun? Basically everyone. But a worthy cause can motivate even the most sedentary bodies. The Spur Group (Spur), a consulting firm that works with Fortune 500 companies, is using a simple exercise challenge to raise money to help end child abuse and neglect.
The challenge: Spur employees have the option to complete 100 push-ups or sit-ups every day for 28 days (must pick one or the other). The exercises can be completed incrementally throughout the day, but for every 10 repetitions not performed, the penalty is a $1 donation to NW Children's Fund (max of $150 total donation per employee). The charitable competition runs Sept 2-Sept 30, 2014. Participation is completely optional.
Spur managers Dan Overgaag and Jeff Betts designed and organized the philanthropic effort.
"We're thrilled with the firm's participation and are proud that Spur employees are contributing their own money to support a great cause," Overgaag said.
"The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has inspired people throughout the world to give and has drastically increased donations to the ALS Association," Betts said. "We wanted to do our part to support a local non-profit and encourage charitable giving."
Over 25 years, NW Children's Fund has become a leading voice in child welfare – aligning resources, organizations and passionate individuals committed to ending child abuse and neglect.
"We are honored to be a part of this innovative campaign with The Spur Group," said Victoria Helm, Executive Director of NW Children's Fund. "As always, we promise your gift will be invested wisely to improve the lives of at-risk kids."
NW Children's Fund ensures that 100 percent of individual donations go directly to funding programs that are protecting children. Learn more about NW Children's Fund at http://nwcf.org.
