WALLDORF, Germany, May 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- SAP AG (NYSE: SAP) today announced a new initiative with Emerging Markets Private Equity Association (EMPEA) designed to promote sustainable investment in emerging economies. EMPEA is a community of more than 300 leading fund managers and institutional investors from nearly 60 countries and representing over US $1 trillion of managed assets. With analytics solutions donated by SAP, EMPEA can offer both the general public and its members an interactive dashboard highlighting its research on the distribution and impact of equity and venture capital funding in emerging markets around the world.

Lack of transparency in the industry has been a challenge, obstructing the flow of capital into developing economies. Because the investments are private, the data is not easily available, much less unified into a coherent picture. EMPEA has solved this problem with their database of emerging markets' private equity activity. FundLink is a proprietary database created by EMPEA for the industry with support from international development finance institutions CDC (UK), DEG (Germany), FMO (Netherlands) and the Development Bank of Southern Africa (South Africa).
With data visualization solutions from SAP and EMPEA's market intelligence, the Emerging Markets Private Equity Data Dashboards provides an easily accessible window into the information needed to drive investment decisions. The tool allows investors, private equity fund managers or governments to look closely at capital flows, identify trends and explore regional details. With better insight, they can make more informed decisions about how, where and with whom to invest their money. Since EMPEA applies the same research methodology across different regions and markets, industry stakeholders can do comparative analysis with the data dashboards for the first time online. This increased access will help those who rely upon EMPEA's data to better choose investment locations, opportunities or fund managers.
The functionality of SAP® BusinessObjects™ Dashboards software provides a new level of transparency on a number of economic factors in emerging economies. The general public can use a version of the Emerging Markets Private Equity Data Dashboards to examine regional statistics and trends in private equity fundraising and investment. Members of EMPEA gain further access to country-level details including a fund managers database with customizable search results. Members can also use customizable analytics to drill down into particular aspects or areas of fundraising and investment activities. With the new tool, it is expected that investors can easily search for the most active deal makers in each region as well as examine sectors and strategies.
"EMPEA members recognize that a holistic understanding of how emerging markets fit within both the global-private equity and wider economic landscape is critical to their investment success," said Jennifer Choi, acting CEO, EMPEA. "We are excited to work with technology leader SAP to deliver dynamic market intelligence that will help drive investment decisions in today's challenging global environment."
"SAP is committed to fostering sustainable growth in both developed and developing markets," said Mark Ferrer, chief operating officer, SAP Global Customer Operations. "Our technology is helping to change how people work and do business. By contributing innovation and resources to support EMPEA's mission, we can help private investors and organizations more responsibly engage with emerging economies. Working together, we can support these economies as they continue to grow and run better."
Last week, EMPEA and SAP shared a preview of the dashboards with over 800 emerging market investors at the industry's flagship Global Private Equity Conference hosted by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in association with EMPEA in Washington, D.C. The data dashboards and a summary of private equity statistics in emerging markets are available online at www.empea.org/research/data-and-statistics/. Enhanced access to in-depth data is available to EMPEA members through custom logins.
