Emmy® Award-Winning 'DAN RATHER REPORTS' Returns To AXS TV With All New Episodes Starting Oct. 21
Veteran Newsman Rather Returns With More Hard-Hitting Journalism In Debut Segment 'Gone To Pot,' An In-Depth Report Of The Illegal Marijuana Business In Northern California
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Dan Rather, whose fearless brand of reporting has made him a legend in broadcast journalism, returns to AXS TV with all new episodes of the multiple-Emmy® winning series DAN RATHER REPORTS. The new episodes kick off on Monday, Oct. 21 at 8-9 p.m. ET (5-6 p.m. PT) with "Gone To Pot," a comprehensive look at illegal marijuana growers in Northern California.
Illegal marijuana growing continues to expand in the Golden State and illicit activity could be the least of the problems. DAN RATHER REPORTS uncovers the challenges the plantings are causing for the state's delicate ecosystem. Water, as it often is in California, is the issue. Marijuana plants require large amounts of water and the state is suffering a drought. Rather and his team uncover information showing that these plants also require a tremendous amount of chemicals in the form of pesticides, fertilizers and rodenticides, and these chemicals could be causing serious health problems for those who use the drug.
"Dan Rather is an icon in the field of news reporting," said AXS Founder Mark Cuban. "We are proud of his award-winning work and are glad that we are able to provide him with the freedom to continue to report on the important stories as only he can."
Also ahead this season is Rather discussing his recollections of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. This episode will be broadcast on November 18 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Kennedy's death on November 22, 1963. Rather was in Dallas at the time, and just beginning his storied career at CBS. He was the first to report the President's death and also the first to see, and describe, the Zapruder Film to his television audience. Rather will speak about the reason for Kennedy's trip to Dallas, his coverage of the Civil Rights movement leading up to the trip, and what happened with President Lyndon B. Johnson and his Civil Rights legislation.
