The new programme, due its first intake in September 2012, targets students aiming for managerial positions in the sports and outdoor industry and is offered in response to the exceptional growth of the industry in the US, Europe and, in particular, Asia.
The course will be run in partnership with the Outdoor Sports Valley consortium (OSV), located in the French Alps. OSV represents over 70 leading brands in the leisure industry including Salomon, The North Face, Patagonia and Rip Curl. Students will take part in specialist workshops run by OSV as well as company visits and industry conferences with the possibility of internships and jobs upon completion.
During the sixteen month programme, participants will be equipped with a strategic overview of the industry, together with the specific skills and knowledge necessary for success in the sector.
From September to the beginning of November students will become acquainted with the fundamental aspects of management in a multicultural environment on the EMLYON campus in Lyon. They will then move to Annecy in the Alps for a five month period of specialisation taught by professionals working in the sector.
The third stage will take place at the EMLYON Asian campus in Shanghai between April and July. The Asian market, boasting a high concentration of production facilities and a rapidly expanding consumer market, is a key strategic focus for all major players in the sector. This part of the course will be dedicated to specific key issues involved in the development of business in the sport and outdoor industry in Asia.
At the end of this stage, participants will finish the course with a company internship of between four and nine months and a master's dissertation.
Patrice Houdayer, Vice-President Graduate Programmes at EMLYON says: "The global sports and outdoor industry is really unique. Companies that operate within this highly competitive, international environment need managers that can adapt their knowledge to the particular nuances of their market. In response to this demand, we've united our expertise in international management with the market expertise of some of the world's major sports companies to design this course."
