eMeter Enters Korean Smart Grid Market With Announcement of Samsung SDS Partnership
The Partnership to Offer Meter Data Management Capabilities and SAP Integration in Smart Grid IT Infrastructure
SEOUL, Korea, May 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- eMeter, the global leader in Smart Grid Management software, announced a new multi-tiered partnership with Korean based Samsung SDS. The partnership will bring together eMeter and Samsung SDS' industry expertise, regional knowledge, resources and technologies to provide enhanced systems integration and development capabilities, especially with regard to SAP integration. The partnership kicked off with a recent signing ceremony at Samsung SDS offices in Seoul, Korea.
"eMeter is proud to be working with market leader Samsung SDS to help bring the newest energy information platform technologies to Korean utilities," said Lisa Caswell, VP of World Wide Alliances at eMeter. "eMeter's partnership with Samsung further extends eMeter's partner ecosystem with access to AMI vendors and upstream technologies such as SAP and others that support the market and we look forward to building on the partnership throughout the rest of the Asian market."
"Through our partnership with eMeter we managed to secure global smart grid solution," said Sung Hoon Kim, CTO and EVP of Technology Division at Samsung SDS. "Samsung's partnership with eMeter will be a key driver to lead the smart grid market."
Samsung SDS has been an early Smart Grid supporter in the Asian market and sought out a global technology partner that could offer value with regard to key qualifications including scalability, interoperability, agnostic to meters and an advanced interface. These qualifications coupled with the company's extensive experience in both the North American and European markets made eMeter the ideal partner for Samsung SDS.
The two companies expect that the partnership will contribute to the country's goal of investing USD 21.6 billion between 2010 and 2030 and having 100 percent deployment of smart meters, based on the Korea Smart Grid Roadmap. Meanwhile as the bill to construct and promote smart grid was passed during the plenary session of the National Assembly on April 29th a basic country-level plan to construct smart grid was set up, and is expected to strengthen a momentum of smart grid as well as designating a stronghold area for smart grid.
Also as Japan's earthquake and the summer power shortage in China raise an issue of power supply as an environmentally-damaging factor, utilizing smart grid and controlling power demand is seen as more effective than increasing power plants thus expanding interests in smart grid and the related industries.
