BEDFORD, N.H., Aug. 24, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Emerson Ecologics, LLC, the leading provider of professional-grade nutritional supplements to the healthcare practitioner market, today announced that the company has relocated its eastern United States distribution center from Bedford, New Hampshire to Colonial Heights, Virginia. The new distribution center opened for operation on August 8, 2011. Emerson Ecologics headquarters and the Eastern customer contact center remain in New Hampshire.

With a footprint eighty percent larger than the previous site, the new facility provides an increase of over fifty percent in Emerson's overall distribution capacity, including its location in Redlands, California. This enables further expansion of the number of products and brands the company can offer, while supporting the continued growth in customer demand for products and services. Emerson Ecologics is a one-stop shop for healthcare practitioners, offering the most comprehensive range of nutritional supplement products from hundreds of industry leading manufacturers.
The selection of Colonial Heights, Virginia, about 20 miles south of Richmond, was a strategic decision based on many factors, including geographic customer concentration, positive business environment, and temperate weather. The location increases the number of customers reached via ground shipping within Emerson's two-day professional delivery guarantee. The modern facility is fully climate-controlled with high-efficiency lighting, supporting the ability to maintain product quality with less environmental impact. Additional capabilities will enable improved accuracy and efficiency in processing orders.
"Emerson is dedicated to continually improving the level of service we provide our doctors," said Andy Greenawalt, CEO, Emerson Ecologics. "To better meet the needs of our customers today and tomorrow, it was necessary for us to expand the eastern distribution center. This new facility doubles our Eastern US distribution capacity, which is essential in supporting our future growth."
All Bedford distribution center employees were offered a position at the new facility, half of them transferring to Virginia. Emerson partnered with the Virginia Department of Business Assistance and participated in the Virginia Jobs Investment Program, which provided recruitment and training assistance.
The move was carefully planned from a logistics, inventory and personnel perspective to minimize impact on customers and fulfill delivery commitments. As all Emerson facilities are cGMP compliant, strict measures were taken to ensure product quality standards were upheld throughout the transition to the new site.
"Our entire team delivered a remarkable effort in orchestrating this move in an organized and professional manner," continued Greenawalt. "And we are thrilled that so many of our Bedford employees transferred to Virginia. They bring with them the Emerson culture, as well as their knowledge of our customers and processes, which has been critical in the transition to the new facility."
