SILICON SLOPES, Utah, Dec. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- AtTask, the leading provider of cloud-based Enterprise Work Management solutions, has enabled InterMetro Industries, a business segment of global technology company Emerson, to unify its software development process, gain greater visibility into its projects, and bring new products to market 70 percent faster. In addition, after implementing AtTask Enterprise Work Management, InterMetro saved more than half a million dollars in R&D capitalized costs.
As a result of several acquisitions, InterMetro's software teams previously had different development approaches, which created the risk of delaying product launches. After a competitive review of 16 different products, InterMetro chose AtTask as its work management solution to consolidate its new software development initiatives.
Overcoming conflicting processes and minimal project visibility
Prior to AtTask, each software team had its own new product development (NPD) process, and InterMetro struggled to achieve visibility for deliverables, issues, and project resources. The Emerson division also lacked a standard process for delivery predictability, hampering its ability to allocate resources to meet deadlines. Although an executive review board would grant resources based on solid proposals, neither the software teams nor executives had clear insights as to how resources were being utilized at any given time.
"Before we standardized, only 15% of our R&D projects were following the corporate NPD process rigor," said Bob Moore, InterMetro's Director of Software Engineering for its Commercial and Residential Solutions business. "It was frustrating that we didn't have a common language or project management tool to assess and report on all of the projects our team had underway."
AtTask has enabled 80 percent of InterMetro's teams to adopt the company-defined NPD process; soon the figure will be 100 percent.
With AtTask, InterMetro was able to integrate its different software development approaches into a common management framework, even when a software team had an established application lifecycle management (ALM) platform. Project managers easily adapted the AtTask solution to the company's Phase Gate methodology, and now possess a single place to launch projects, assign tasks, and also track requirements and defects in software development. Managers can also oversee the request queues for projects, capital or scope change requests, and view the activities for a given request.
An intuitive work management solution
Recalling InterMetro's review of 16 work management products, Bob Moore said that the "AtTask demonstration scored off the charts. It was by far the most intuitive solution our team had ever seen. With AtTask we can manage projects instead of put out fires."
