PHILADELPHIA, May 12, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- American Law Institute Continuing Legal Education (ALI CLE) has announced that Current Developments in Employment Law will be held on July 27-29, 2017, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Featuring top practitioners and federal judges, this nationally recognized conference will cover the latest employment law issues.
Current Developments in Employment Law is reformulated each year to focus on the most important topics and issues confronting employment lawyers. New for this year are the impacts of the Trump administration on employment law and emerging issues such as implicit bias, damages, and LGBT issues in the workplace. In addition, Planning Co-Chair Robert Fitzpatrick will lead a review and discussion by a panel of federal judges on the Supreme Court's 2016-2017 term that includes decisions McLane v. EEOC and NLRB v. SW General.
Other current topics to be addressed at the conference include:
- Recent NLRB precedent changes: which ones could be reversed and how will the courts react?
- Emerging ADA and FMLA developments
- Current discovery and evidentiary issues
- Arbitration in the employment setting
- FLSA developments: DOL and the courts
- Whistleblower law and retaliation
- Settlement of employment cases: the hot button issues
"Since the era in which I started in this field, the law has grown from a few laws like the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to a veritable alphabet soup of statutes at both the federal, state, and local level. Hence, to remain competent in this field, an employment lawyer needs to be constantly learning the tsunami of recent developments," said Planning Co-Chair, Robert Fitzpatrick.
Fitzpatrick added, "Twenty-four years ago, in recognition of that reality, I recommended to then ALI-ABA, now ALI CLE, that a course be created for the specific purpose of offering to employment lawyers the opportunity to learn from their colleagues and federal judges the most recent developments in this area of law…. Every year we receive accolades from registrants that the first day back at work, they are applying the practice tips learned from our faculty." The program gives employment lawyers the unique opportunity to interact with federal judges and top-notch practicing lawyers on our faculty. The faculty is available informally in a host of settings over the two-and-a-half day program."
