Emerging Cybersecurity Threats Spotlighted at LMU Summit

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 3, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Government officials, corporate executives and cybersecurity experts will gather at Loyola Marymount University to discuss current and emerging threats posed by cyber attacks on Monday, Oct. 6, from 9 a.m. to noon at LMU's College of Business Administration.

Cyber attacks on corporations, government agencies and individuals are becoming more frequent and complex, affecting millions of individuals and hundreds of organizations each year and costing billions of dollars. Everyone agrees that something must be done to protect everyone from cyber attacks on "big data." The question is, what?

The Los Angeles Cybersecurity Summit 2014 will include representatives of government organizations, businesses and nonprofit groups who will explore the current state of cybersecurity and what technological advances are being developed to curb the threat.

Speaking at the summit will be Congresswoman Maxine Waters; Lieutenant Mark Stevens, Fraud and Cyber Crime Bureau Operations, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department; Dominic Nessi, Executive Management/Chief Information Officer, Los Angeles World Airports; Rami Razouk, Ph.D., senior vice president, Engineering and Technology Group, Aerospace Corporation; and Clifford Neuman, Ph.D., director of the Center for Computer Systems Security, USC, Information Sciences Institute.

The Cybersecurity Summit is co-sponsored by LMU, the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation, The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Coastal Los Angeles Section (CLAS), IEEE CLAS Computer Society Chapter and the IEEE CLAS, Women in Engineering Chapter.

"This summit is being held as part of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month," said the organizer of the event, Mehrdad Sharbaf, Ph.D., a lecturer who specializes in finance and computer information systems at LMU. "We are bringing together experts to discuss effective measures to manage cyber threats, and to raise awareness to confront those threats. We want this event to encourage vigilance and protection by all computer users."
