Emerging Capital Partners Joins United Nations-Backed Responsible Investment Initiative
WASHINGTON, May 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Emerging Capital Partners (ECP), a leading private equity firm committed to building responsible businesses across the African continent, has become a signatory to the United Nations' Principles for Responsible Investment (UNPRI), a globally recognized initiative dedicated to integrating environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations into investment processes.
Signing the UNPRI guidelines is consistent with ECP's efforts in contributing to development in Africa by upholding best practices in corporate governance, social development and environmental sustainability in the continent's private sector. As part of this initiative, ECP has institutionalized a new protocol to track ESG impact and mandated internal ESG training to promote knowledge on related issues.
"Weighing social and environmental responsibility on par with economic profitability is not a matter of choice but rather a necessity in creating sustainable economic value for all who have a stake in our success in Africa," said Hurley Doddy, ECP's Co-Chief Executive Officer. "Signing the UNPRI is consistent with our efforts to foster a culture of transparency and accountability inside our portfolio companies."
Throughout ECP's 10 years of investing, it has supported creation of more than 50,000 jobs throughout Africa, encouraging the development of technical and managerial skills and fostering a sophisticated, highly skilled workforce across the continent.
