Emergency Communications Network to Participate in Second Annual White House Safety Datapalooza
ORMOND BEACH, Fla., Jan. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Emergency Communications Network (ECN), the nation's leading provider of high-speed emergency notification solutions, will participate in the Second Annual White House Safety Datapalooza on January, 14, 2014 at the United States Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. The event highlights innovators from the private, nonprofit and academic sectors who have used freely available government data to build products, services and apps that advance public safety in creative and powerful ways.
In 2012, ECN released the CodeRED Mobile Alert app, which integrates safety alerts initiated by emergency management and public safety officials across the United States, with National Weather Service warnings to provide hyperlocal, real-time information to subscribers. The app, available for a free download on iTunes and Google Play, was recently used to deliver push notifications to subscribers affected by the polar vortex, providing them multimedia alert information including audio, text and a map indicating the exact area of impact.
The app has been relied upon as a source of information during nearly every recent major emergency in the United States, including Superstorm Sandy, the Boston Marathon bombings and the Texas fertilizer plant explosion. The CodeRED Mobile Alert app gives users the ability to customize the types of alerts they would like to receive, the alert warning's tone and even their personal warning radius to fine tune or expand their ability to receive alerts based on their proximity.
Troy Harper, a former emergency manager and a member of ECN's mobile software and innovation team, will be attending the Safety Datapalooza event to meet and brainstorm with other attendees and to discuss how ECN's technology and open data can be operationalized in future initiatives to address public safety challenges in the United States. Harper will be tweeting live during the event using the ECN Twitter handle @EmergCommNetwrk and hashtag #safetydata.
"It was an honor to be invited to this unique event, and a privilege for us to meet with a group of individuals who are also focused on enhancing public safety using innovative technology. The CodeRED Mobile Alert app has been used to successfully locate missing persons and deliver early warnings ahead of dangerous tornadoes. We look forward to expanding our mobile app technology in conjunction with the White House and other government agencies for a common goal," said David DiGiacomo, ECN President.
