eMerge Americas 2020 Hackathon Unites Corporate Partners To Drive Social Impact In South Florida
-Ford Motor Company, Ultimate Software, GE, Wyntalent and Wyncode Academy challenge developers to build innovative solution to benefit local Miami nonprofit organization-
MIAMI, March 3, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- eMerge Americas, the premier technology event connecting the Americas, has announced the 2020 Hackathon, powered by Wyncode Academy and Wyntalent, will be anchored in a special initiative for social innovation benefiting the South Florida community. For a second year in a row, Ford Motor Company, Ultimate Software, and GE have returned as supporting sponsors to unite for the special hackathon scheduled for March 28, 2020.
"We believe that if we work together to harness the creative horsepower of some of the brightest developers in our city, we can solve the social challenges affecting our community," said Johanna Mikkola, cofounder of Wyncode Academy. "We are thrilled to be partnering with eMerge Americas once again."
This year, CNC, a Miami-based nonprofit organization that provides human services for underserved communities within the Miami-Dade area, was chosen as the nonprofit who will benefit from the Hackathon. The theme of this year's Hackathon, Mobilizing Miami for Social Impact, was selected to target efficient solutions using mobility that can directly support CNC's programs.
First formed in 1972, CNC was established to research and address the needs of Cuban refugees settling in the U.S. Today, CNC has expanded to provide outcome-oriented programs to all underserved communities within four pillars of service: early childhood education, youth programs geared for job placement, refugee employment services, and financial education services.
"Mobility and connectivity directly impact the economic expansion of our community. We are thrilled to work with these partners to further our mission to build bridges amongst the diverse communities within Miami-Dade," said Gabriela Musiet, President & CEO of CNC.
Participating developers and designers are accepted after a stringent selection process to ensure the caliber of these innovative solutions. The chosen teams will be tasked with building a unique solution within twelve hours using mobility to solve a challenge for one of CNC's service pillars that drives social impact in the South Florida community. The team behind the winning project will be awarded $10,000 cash in prize money. Furthermore, CNC will be awarded a $25K grant toward the purchase of a vehicle in order to implement the mobility solution created at the Hackathon on behalf of Ford Motor Company.
The Hackathon is the first of a series of events that kicks off the eMerge Americas conference, held annually at the Miami Beach Convention Center.
