EmblemHealth and Montefiore Extend Agreement, Commit to Furthering Goals of Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs)
NEW YORK, Jan. 11, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Montefiore, the University Hospital and Academic Medical Center for Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and EmblemHealth have renewed their agreement for an additional three-year term effective on January 1, 2011.
The agreement calls for Montefiore, through its subsidiary, The Care Management Company (CMO), to continue to manage the care of 90,000 EmblemHealth members. The CMO coordinates care and provides vital disease management services for these members, thus reducing costs and improving outcomes.
Building on a unique ten-year partnership, Montefiore and EmblemHealth have also agreed to explore similar arrangements for EmblemHealth’s fee-for-service patient population. These arrangements will embrace the concepts of ACOs (Accountable Care Organizations), which focus on enhancing the patient experience and overall health and well-being, improving quality outcomes and reducing costs.
“This exciting agreement extends a ten-year pre-payment arrangement that has successfully aligned the interests of EmblemHealth members, EmblemHealth and Montefiore,” said Steven M. Safyer, MD, President and CEO of Montefiore Medical Center.
“In addition, the contract breaks new ground by committing both parties to initiate projects that will advance national health reform goals, such as increasing quality care and stemming the rise in health care costs. Our partnership is a model for all that can be accomplished when providers and payers collaborate to improve the healthcare delivery system.”
“We look forward to implementing new and innovative programs with Montefiore based on the principles of health reform, focusing on improving outcomes for the people we serve,” said Frank Branchini, President and COO, EmblemHealth.
