Ely is Not on Fire
America's Coolest Small Town and the BWCAW are still open for fall travel
ELY, Minn., Sept. 15, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Yes, you may know Ely for our April Fool's antics, and for being America's Coolest Small Town, but this news is no joke.
Ely is not on fire. All of the main roads are open, everything is business as usual for the town and for the outfitters who help travelers visit the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness every day.
"We are all open for business, and we have no smoke," says Linda Fryer, Ely Chamber of Commerce. "The fire you're hearing about on the news is southeast of town, and in fact, there are many entry points into the BWCAW still open. Our outfitters are re-routing people who have permits for a closed entry point. We want to emphasize to travelers that only 10 percent of the BWCAW is under fire watch."
It's peak fall color season in Ely, Minn. right now. Keep up to date on the news by visiting http://www.ely.org or call 1-800-777-7281. Follow us @weloveely and like us at facebook/weloveely.
