In addition to providing Georgetown's new metering solution, Elster will also work with partners Hometown Connections, the utility services subsidiary of the American Public Power Association (APPA), Texas Meter and Device and Wesco Distribution to develop a tailor-made solution for the City of Georgetown.
"The relationship between Elster and Hometown Connections really solidified our decision that this was the right deployment for Georgetown," said Glenn Dishong, utility director, Georgetown. "With improved metering services and communications solutions, we will be able to drive the savings we need while improving our customers' utility experience."
For the last 10 years, the City of Georgetown operated a one-way fixed network system. Now, with Elster's EnergyAxis, the City of Georgetown will have a comprehensive multi-utility metering and communications infrastructure capable of improving customer service through usage monitoring, which allows the customer to efficiently understand how much energy consumption is being used. Communication between the meters and the system software will enable the City of Georgetown to reduce operational costs and minimize outage management response time.
Elster's EnergyAxis will also provide consumers with more flexibility in managing electricity and water consumption. Increased visibility into energy and water usage will enable Georgetown residents to better monitor and manage utility consumption and costs.
"Our partnership with the City of Georgetown demonstrates how Elster partners with its customers to develop utility modernization solutions that are well-suited to Georgetown's service territory and its residents," said Joe Orlando, Senior Vice President for Strategy and Marketing, Elster Solutions.
"With industry-leading reliability and interoperability, Elster's EnergyAxis system and other grid modernization applications are fast becoming the solution of choice for multi-utility installations," Orlando said.
