RALEIGH, N.C., May 31, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Elster (NYSE: ELT) today announced that the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) is deploying Elster American Meter gas meters and Elster AMCO Water meters to improve operational efficiencies and to cost-effectively manage energy resources across 14 U.S. military bases. An approved vendor to the U.S. military, Elster's gas and water meters were chosen for their superior quality, accuracy and reliability.

As a supplier to Schneider Electric, a global specialist in energy management with dedicated groups for the federal government and the Department of Defense, Elster will assist NAVFAC in monitoring and managing energy consumption across facilities in support of the Energy Policy Act of 2005, which provides tax incentives and loan guarantees to implement technologies that reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, which mandates improvements in the energy performance of the Federal Government.
"Given the federal initiatives to monitor, manage and report energy consumption, we need reliable meters that can operate effectively in various geographical locations and under harsh conditions," said Dan Vesey, national manager, federal accounts for Schneider Electric. "Elster meters have proven to be accurate and of good quality, which helps us offer best value to the government."
Specifically, three types of Elster American Meter residential, commercial and industrial gas meters are being deployed, which are unequaled in accuracy retention and life cycle maintenance costs: diaphragm meters, which include the AC-250, AL-425, AC-630, AL-800 and AL-1000; CMTC RPM rotary gas meters, which provide accurate measurement, outstanding long-term performance and a heavy duty design to resist bending and "lock-ups"; and Elster American Meter turbine meters, which provide accurate reading of high-volume gas flows.
In addition, Elster AMCO Water T4000 and TS4000 turbine meters are being deployed, which assure maximum revenue with minimal pressure loss, minimize debris damage typical of high-volume installations and extend service life by using high-quality materials.
"Elster has successful gas and water metering solutions deployed all over the world, and being selected as an approved vendor to the U.S. Government is a strong testament to the quality and reliability of our meters," said Roy Sutterfield, president of Elster Gas North America. "As these Elster gas and water meters are made in the U.S., they are a fitting choice for U.S. military upgrades and retrofits."
"We have established a strong working relationship with both NAVFAC and Schneider Electric to bring energy efficiency savings and robust metering capabilities to current and future deployments," Sutterfield added.
