PHILADELPHIA, November 18, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --
Percentage of revenues from MD Consult, First Consult subscriptions sold Nov.-Dec. go to medical relief organization building a hospital in Ethiopia
Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, announced today that it will contribute to International Crisis Aid (ICA) through its "Pillars of Hope" campaign, providing medical assistance and support to numerous people around the world.
Elsevier will donate 10 percent of its revenue to ICA for all subscriptions to MD Consult, Elsevier's premier electronic clinical reference tool, purchased between Nov. 15 and Dec. 31, 2011. This donation will help aid those in crisis by supporting construction of a new hospital in Ethiopia. Elsevier hopes to raise up to $15,000 through the purchase of new MD Consult individual annual subscriptions.
"ICA is grateful to Elsevier for supporting our medical relief efforts," said Pat Bradley, President and Board Chairman for ICA. "The construction of a hospital in Ethiopia is a very important project for us. The generosity of Elsevier and the people who purchase MD Consult subscriptions during this campaign will move us closer to the hospital's completion and high quality medical care for the Ethiopians who visit the hospital."
Elsevier is committed to advancing global healthcare through timely, accurate clinical knowledge and data. With more than 7,000 employees working in more than 70 offices worldwide, Elsevier has a long track record of partnership with global science and health communities in around the world. This is third year that Elsevier has initiated a donation program with an international medical charity.
In September 2000, St. Louis, MO-based ICA began work in Southern Sudan during a time of desperate civil war by delivering humanitarian aid into dangerous "no-go" zones where starvation, disease and genocide are a part of everyday life.
"At Elsevier we always want to help enhance and improve care and outcomes for patients around the world," said Randy Charles, Managing Director, Global Clinical Reference, Elsevier. "By supporting ICA through 'Pillars of Hope,' Elsevier is working towards fulfilling its global healthcare mission of building insights and breaking boundaries while making a positive impact to the healthcare community. We hope this campaign will be a great success."

ICA's mission is to assist in sustaining life, bring encouragement to those suffering and collaborate with other relief organizations in bringing necessary foods, materials and medicines to people in times of crisis, particularly where life and death situations exist. To accomplish this vision we will continue to target our efforts in "no-go zones" where other organizations cannot or will not go. Since 2002, ICA programs have reached out to children and families in Cambodia, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, North Korea, Indonesia, Sudan and Haiti. It is now working on Safe homes in the U.S.A.
