Elsevier Announces the Launch of the First Journal in Two-dimensional Materials: FlatChem
AMSTERDAM, February 29, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --
Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and solutions, today announces the launch of a new two-dimensional (2D) graphene journal: FlatChem.
FlatChem - Chemistry of Flat Materials, the first journal to focus on this subject, will publish research related to the chemistry of graphene and related 2D and layered materials. The aim of the journal is to combine the chemistry and applications of these materials, where the submission of communications and full papers, and concepts should contain chemistry in a materials context which can be both experimental and/or theoretical studies. In addition to original research articles, FlatChem will also offer reviews, highlights and perspectives on the future of this research area with the scientific leaders in fields related to flat materials.
After accepting the role of journal editor, Professor Karl Coleman (Durham University UK) explained: "Since 2004 there has been rapidly growing interest in graphene, which has now developed further to include other exciting 2D materials. The whole area of 2D materials is now firmly established as an important part of chemistry, physics and materials science. FlatChem aims to capture some of this excitement and new developments to become a premier journal in this field.
Professor Coleman is joined by co-editor Professor Jason Jieshan Qiu (Director, Liaoning Key Lab for Energy Material & Chemical Engineering, Dalian University of Technology), who envisions that FlatChem will function as a medium to cover the core chemistry science of flat materials, that will pave new ways to tackle the bottle-neck problems in the fields of energy, environment and biotechnology.
Dr. Greeshma Nair, Managing Editor for Chemistry, explained, "Research in the field of 2D and layered materials were in the past often reported in Nanoscience journals. However, we have now come to the point where we feel the need to separate such research out from the wider nano-umbrella; to properly reflect the current maturity of the field. FlatChem will provide an appropriate platform for the showcasing of the novel chemistry of these materials with a view to their technological applications. FlatChem will also benefit from its collaboration with industrial professionals, making it an ideal platform for academia to enhance the visibility of its research in the industrial community."
