Elmhurst Historical Museum Selects Yooba's iPad Publishing Platform for Interactive Museum Kiosks
BOSTON, Dec. 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Elmhurst Historical Museum is a regional history museum founded in 1957 and operated by the City of Elmhurst, Illinois. In early 2013, Lance Tawzer, Curator of Exhibits, started to investigate how to bring interactive technology to the museum. "As a small museum with a limited budget, we have always wanted to increase the interactivity within our changing exhibits, but the costs of hiring a media developer to program iPads and touch screens was out of our range," says Lance Tawzer.

Looking for a development platform that was both intuitive and robust, Lance Tawzer happened upon Yooba. Here was a service that provided accessible development tools and a rock-solid deployment system for much less of an investment than anything else he had found – Lance was sold. "Yooba's approach to a subscription basis is perfect for our organization. We change our exhibits 3 to 4 times a year which allows us to re-task the iPads each time without having to hire someone to produce a new exhibit. The design studio interface is really good and easy to learn. I've already recommended Yooba to some of my fellow colleagues and they have come out to see my iPads in action in my new exhibit."
In just a few weeks, Lance Tawzer designed and created several apps focusing on Carl Sandburg's life during various decades of Elmhurst history. These apps feature a combination of real people's video testimonials and related images to capture the essence of prior decades in Elmhurst for the current generation. Lance has also developed an app about President Lincoln, including a quiz about the prairie years.
The future for using Yooba at the museum is wide-open. "I plan to expand my use of the iPads for use in collecting data and orientating our patrons as well as in the museum's permanent exhibit. For an organization like ours, Yooba is a perfect fit," says Lance Tawzer.
