Elmer's® Introduces Free "World of Glue" Lesson Plan to Support Creative Learning
COLUMBUS, Ohio, Dec. 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Reinforcing its commitment to educate and inspire creativity, Elmer's® Products, Inc. has introduced a unique instructional unit for kindergartners through fifth-graders called "The World of Glue: An Investigation of Adhesives." Teachers are encouraged to use this free plan to familiarize students with the properties of common adhesives and the science of polymers in a fun and creative way.

"Teachers have long relied on our School Glue to support projects in the classroom, but we are also focused on helping educators through resources such as engaging lesson plans like 'The World of Glue'," said Terri Brown, Elmer's director, consumer engagement. "We developed this particular lesson to help students understand how something they use often in classroom projects actually works."
Elmer's teamed up with The Adhesive and Sealant Council and DPNA International, Inc. to produce the lesson, which satisfies several Common Core and National Science Education standards. Among the materials featured in the 22-page plan are activity instructions, discussion questions and student hand-outs. In addition, Elmer's offers recommended references including Too Much Glue, a children's book authored by Jason Lefebvre.
Lefebvre's story complements the lesson as it supports the creative use of adhesives in the classroom. "Glue is so much fun for kids and I think Too Much Glue is a book that every child can relate to," he said. "I also hope that by incorporating it with 'The World of Glue' teaching guide, students will enjoy learning the important science concepts of polymers."
Elmer's resident teacher advisor and blogger, Melissa Hughes, recently interviewed Lefebvre about his book and features the discussion in the latest Teachers' Club blog post.
