About Vital Vio's CEO & Co-Founder
Colleen Costello was a junior in college when her grandmother contracted a MRSA infection during what was expected to be a routine hospital stay. This led, Colleen, a biomedical engineering major, to begin researching the cause and effect in relation to the issue. She learned that preventable infections acquired in hospitals are all too common. According to the CDC, one in 25 patients under hospital care contract a preventable hospital acquired infection. Motivated to change these stats, Costello put together a team of multidisciplinary engineers, and scientists and began researching smarter ways to manage bacteria levels. This led them to start Vital Vio in 2013 to develop precise spectrums of light to safely and continuously kills germs on common surfaces.  Colleen holds a degree in Biomedical Engineering with a focus in Technological Entrepreneurship from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, NY.
