"The Academy and its members will benefit from Ellen's ability to make the complex work of the profession accessible to broader audiences and to ensure the actuarial voice is heard on important issues—such as health care, lifetime income, retirement security, risk management and property and casualty," said Mary Downs, executive director of the Academy. "She brings to the Academy an impressive track record of building strong relationships with national, local, and trade media."
Dadisman comes to the Academy with 25 years' experience advancing public policy through communications in government, associations and non-profits. As communications director for the U.S. House Committee on Ways and Means, she represented the Members of Congress who debated the future of Social Security and Medicare, among other entitlement programs. Dadisman started her career as deputy press secretary for former U.S. Sen. Bob Graham and held a number of communications positions in the administration of former Florida Gov. Lawton Chiles.
The American Academy of Actuaries is a 17,000-member professional association whose mission is to serve the public and the U.S. actuarial profession. The Academy assists public policymakers on all levels by providing leadership, objective expertise, and actuarial advice on risk and financial security issues. The Academy also sets qualification, practice, and professionalism standards for actuaries in the United States.
