Elizabethtown Gas to Serve Ogdensburg Borough Residents and Businesses
UNION, N.J., July 15, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Elizabethtown Gas, a subsidiary of AGL Resources (NYSE: AGL), on Thursday received approval from the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) to provide natural gas service to the Borough of Ogdensburg, New Jersey.
For the first time in borough history, residents and businesses will have the option of clean, cost-effective and reliable natural gas for their heating and other needs.
"We're pleased that the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities approved our franchise that will allow us the opportunity to serve the community of Ogdensburg," said Don Carter, vice president, Elizabethtown Gas. "Natural gas offers significant savings and is a cleaner alternative to other fuel sources. The new franchise is an added advantage to the already high quality of life enjoyed in Ogdensburg."
With this approval, Elizabethtown Gas intends on moving forward with the Borough on plans to extend the natural gas distribution system to six municipal buildings. They include Ogdensburg Elementary School, which will be the first to receive natural gas service, the Old Schoolhouse and Fire Museum, Borough of Ogdensburg Municipal Building, Ogdensburg Fire Department, Ogdensburg First Aid Squad and the Borough of Ogdensburg Garage.
The company will also conduct a series of surveys in coming months to determine the interest by residents and businesses in obtaining natural gas service.
In February, the Ogdensburg Borough Council approved an ordinance allowing Elizabethtown Gas a franchise to operate gas lines and serve customers. The company later filed a petition with the NJBPU, which was approved Thursday.
