Elizabeth Olmstead Wins PRSA Georgia's Chapter Champion Award
ATLANTA, Oct. 29, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Elizabeth Olmstead has been awarded the October 2014 Chapter Champion Award from the Georgia Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (www.prsageorgia.org) in recognition of her dedicated volunteer work.
The award recognizes members who have significantly contributed to the Chapter's success and is given monthly or when appropriate. She was presented with a certificate and inscribed pen.
Olmstead's contributions to the Chapter include serving on the Annual Conference PR Committee for the past two years. In this role, she has overseen all of the public relations outreach for the event. She has been appointed as the co-chair of the 2015 conference. She also served as a speaker at the 2014 Real World Collegiate Conference and previously participated in the conference's Career Expo. In addition, she has helped judge PRSA award entries from other chapters.
"I decided to become involved with the Georgia Chapter because it is a great way to stay connected with former colleagues and to meet new people in the industry," she said. "PRSA also provides the opportunity to hear directly from the people who are leading great campaigns. PRSA connects you with people and industry trends."
Olmstead is Cox Enterprises' senior manager of public relations. She serves as the day-to-day spokesperson for Cox Enterprises, a $16 billion company with more than 50,000 employees. She participates in corporate announcements involving the company's leadership, investments and subsidiaries. She also supports Cox's public affairs, environmental and corporate responsibility programs, as well as crisis communications. She joined the company in 2007.
Prior to Cox, she was a senior account executive at MSL. Olmstead is a graduate of Leadership Buckhead and serves as a mentor for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta. In 2009, PR News magazine named her to its national "15 to Watch" list, which identifies top-performing public relations professionals under the age of 30. She is a graduate of Georgia State University with a bachelor's degree in journalism.
Because of this type of volunteerism, the Georgia Chapter ranks as the second-largest chapter in the nation and has been recognized for its best membership practices among PRSA chapters across the country.
PRSA's Georgia Chapter (www.prsageorgia.org) consists of some 900 members throughout Georgia. Its mission is to enhance the profession, provide continuing education and offer networking opportunities for its members.
The Chapter has monthly meetings, as well as eight Special Interest Groups (Corporate and Employee Communications, Healthcare, Independent Counselors, Leader Board, Nonprofit, Technology, Travel and Tourism, and Young Professionals) that meet at various times.
The Chapter supports 10 PRSSA (student society) groups at the following colleges: Berry College (Rome), Clark Atlanta University (Atlanta), Columbus State University (Columbus), Georgia College & State University (Milledgeville), Georgia State University (Atlanta), Georgia Southern University (Statesboro), Kennesaw State University (Kennesaw), Savannah State University (Savannah), University of Georgia (Athens), and University of West Georgia (Carrollton).
