NEW YORK, Jan. 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Elephant Talk Communications Corp. (NYSE MKT: ETAK) ("Elephant Talk" or the "Company"), a global provider of Software Defined Network Architecture (ET Software DNA® 2.0) platforms and cyber security solutions, today announced that LOWI has been launched on Elephant Talk's fully redundant mobile platform in Spain, joining virtual operators like Lebara, BT, Eroski, NEO and HITS.
Elephant Talk, through its existing agreement with Vodafone Enabler Spain S.L., enables LOWI through its full services platform including postpaid voice, SMS and data services, with 3G coverage for consumers throughout Spain. Luis Jimenez-Tunon, Managing Director of Vodafone Enabler Espana S.L., stated, "The launch of LOWI was a remarkable achievement for both Vodafone Enabler and Elephant Talk. Our combined teams worked relentlessly to complete the platform in 3 months in support of Vodafone's new brand. Elephant Talk was able to change the complete core network, the systems architecture, the billing engine, developed all the functionality required and integrated with third parties for the website and distribution. Both teams worked seamlessly together and since mid-December we have been activating new LOWI SIMs on Elephant Talk's platform."
"Global consumer interest in high-value mobile services continues to drive new MNO and MVNO brands, creating valuable opportunities for MNOs and enablers like us that can provide the critical software infrastructure needed to efficiently and cost effectively deploy these new integrated services," stated Steven van der Velden, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Elephant Talk. "Due to the unique Network Function Virtualization foundation of our ET Software DNA® 2.0 platform, we believe we are able to dramatically reduce capital investment costs for mobile operators, while improving their time to market and also increasing added value for their customers. We look forward to continue to add MNO and MVNO brands to our portfolio over the course of 2015 and, as these brands aggressively build their subscriber bases, we expect to continue adding high margin SIMs to our platform."
Alberto Galaso, Director of Low Cost in Vodafone Spain, explained: "LOWI starts with the purpose of leading the low cost segment in Spain, with a disruptive approach based on simplicity and transparency. We are featuring 1GB+ of mobile data for 6€ VAT included, and 0c€/min calls to all Spanish mobile and fixed numbers (charging only the call set-up). Additionally, customers benefit from the ability to rollover non-consumed data to the next month."
"In only three months, we were able to deploy a fully redundant installation including new HLR\HSSs, new upgraded IP systems, new GGSNs, new provisioning, a new postpaid billing system and backup systems in two co-location datacenters in Barcelona and Madrid, a process that would have taken other providers at least a year," stated Martin Zuurbier, CTO of Elephant Talk. "Thanks to our 'super node' processing platform in Spain, we have enabled systems like our Dynamic Rating Engine to run in memory with extremely fast response times and redundancies, all part of our existing NFV/SDN platform."
