Elemental Live Streams GameSpot's Coverage of E3
CBS Interactive platform, GameSpot, Expects Record-Setting Online Viewing of Premier Gaming Event's HD Video
PORTLAND, Ore., June 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Elemental Technologies, the leading provider of massively parallel video processing solutions, today announced that GameSpot is using Elemental Live, its real-time video encoder, to stream on demand HD content from the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) this week. CBS Interactive's GameSpot, the most-visited gaming website in the world, is leveraging Elemental Live's massively parallel horsepower and unique Smart Archive capabilities to more efficiently stream more than 45 hours of show content to the web.
This year, E3 is expected to draw more than 40,000 attendees and 100 exhibitors with 54 stage show demonstrations taking place along with major press conferences from Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft. GameSpot will encode and post HD versions of all show content online within minutes using Elemental Live. Over the three-day event, GameSpot expects to upload 300 individual videos of E3 content to its site.
"As the global platform for gaming innovation, tens of thousands of viewers worldwide will tune in to E3 via GameSpot for instantaneous access to announcements and show floor action," said Ryan MacDonald, Director of Production at CBS Interactive. "Using Elemental Live's Smart Archive, we can immediately splice and post live-encoded content to GameSpot.com simply with a push of a button, serving HD streams faster than ever before."
With the exponential growth in Internet video viewing, GameSpot expects to have significantly more site traffic and demand for video content than last year, which included 14 million views of video during the month of June. The rising expectation for access to live content puts additional pressure on encoding and posting event content efficiently. Elemental Live solves this bottleneck by enabling real-time compression and editing of the incoming HD-SDI streams for faster upload while maintaining crisp, high-quality H.264 content output.
Inspired by participation in a similar high-profile conference production environment, Elemental Live's Smart Archive feature adds ease of management with real-time control for operators and content creators that is not available in competing products.
