Elekta's Monaco 5.10 Treatment Planning System Takes Center Stage at 2015 AAPM Radiation Physics Conference
ANAHEIM, California, July 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
AAPM Booth #1215 - At the 57th American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) Annual Meeting & Exhibition, July 12-16 in Anaheim, California, Elekta will showcase the latest version of its Monaco® treatment planning system, version 5.10, which introduces several new features and enhancements designed to enhance performance, precision and control for a complete planning solution without compromise. Monaco 5.10 users will be able to:
- Plan multiple patients simultaneously with a highly automated planning and treatment workflow
- Quickly optimize plans with a single calculation and change constraints in real time
- Use Forward Planning to achieve better dose uniformity than can be obtained with a single-port 3D beam
- Utilize templates to create highly conformal treatment plans quickly and easily and share with other centers
- Re-check plan quality by re-calculating third-party plans with Monte Carlo
- Plan both MLC and cone-based plans from a single planning solution
Furthermore, the addition of Specialty Images* in Monaco 5.10 enables users to combine two or more image sets to make a specialty image that can help define the target volume affected by respiratory movement. This is useful for lung SRS treatments.
Monaco users can plan complex SBRT and SRS cases with support for SRS Cones and Micro MLC with the confidence of the Monte Carlo algorithm.
Monaco 5.10 pilot sites in the United States are providing preliminary feedback on the latest version:
"The Multiple Prescriptions option in Monaco is the single biggest thing to assist my workflow and efficiency," says Mark Mayhew, Dosimetrist, Southeast Cancer Center, Cape Girardeau, Missouri. "Smart tools, such as Isodose Templating and Anatomical Group Editing are very useful as well.
"Since using Monaco 5.10, we've noticed that with the DMLC IMRT planning we do, there is very little change between optimization and segmentation," he adds.
Sotiri Stathakis, PhD, Medical Physicist at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, notes that the recalculation option in Monaco 5.10 has been a convenient method to check the plan quality from another treatment planning system in difficult cases, such as in lung SBRT.
"This capability might also help us evaluate plans for patients that return with a recurrence," Dr. Stathakis adds.
"Our users need to be able to treat a variety of cases - from conventional radiotherapy to complete stereotactic treatments employing a single treatment planning system," says Todd Powell, Executive Vice President Comprehensive Oncology Solutions. "With Monaco 5.10, users now have this ability and can do so without compromising accuracy or plan quality."
In addition to Monaco 5.10, the following solutions also will be highlighted at the Elekta booth:
- Knowledge Management solutions, including the recently introduced Leksell Gamma Knife® Registry
- The latest version of MOSAIQ®, which provides enhancements including IQ Scripts Plan of the Day, ePrescribing for narcotics and a host of other workflow enhancing features
- Oncentra Brachy® for planning of brachytherapy treatments
- AQUA, a quality management system which offers a full suite of workflow-oriented machine QA tasks
