CHARLOTTE, N.C., July 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Electrolux today donated more than $250,000 in room air conditioners for those in need. The donations took place in Charlotte, home of the company's North American headquarters, and in Springfield, TN, site of an Electrolux manufacturing plant.
In Charlotte, the company delivered Frigidaire® air conditioners to the Furniture Bank at longstanding partner Crisis Assistance Ministry for distribution to low-income families and individuals throughout Charlotte and the surrounding community. "With the summer's extreme temperatures, air conditioning is a necessity," said Nolan Pike, Senior Vice President – North American Product Lines. "Going without air conditioning can be life threatening, and we hope this donation will make a difference in the lives of many."
In Springfield, a rural community outside Nashville, the United Way of Robeson County helped organize the pickup of the units at the factory by local firefighters, who often respond to heat emergencies when families and individuals are without means to cool their homes. "Anyone who has experienced a Southern summer understands just how important strong and efficient air conditioning is to staying healthy and safe throughout the hottest months of the year," said Mike Longe, Springfield Plant Manager for Electrolux. "On behalf of the 3,200 employees at the Electrolux Springfield plant, we are honored by this opportunity. We're particularly grateful to the United Way for helping organize the distribution, and of course we thank our local first responders – not only for their participation in this effort, but for the life-saving services they provide on a daily basis."
The majority of the donated units are the Frigidaire Cool Connect Air Conditioner, one of the company's connected appliances. The product allows consumers to remotely control the air conditioner from their smart device. That means they can begin cooling down their homes from anywhere using an iOS or Android mobile app, and create custom cooling schedules based on daily activities.
Electrolux, which sells these air conditioning units under its Frigidaire brand, manufactures cooking, laundry, dishwashers, refrigerators and freezer products in its eight North American factories. Many of the products are designed locally in Charlotte, where the company's North American business is headquartered.
