CHARLOTTE, N.C., Dec. 22, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Electrolux announced today that it has donated more than 280 refrigerators to aid in recovery efforts in South Carolina related to the severe flooding earlier this year. The Salvation Army, in partnership with other long term recovery organizations in South Carolina, will make use of the appliances to support the needs of South Carolina flood victims. Today's donation of refrigerators, valued at more than $125,000, will help many needy families throughout South Carolina.
The new refrigerators were manufactured at the Electrolux Anderson, South Carolina plant, where approximately 1900 South Carolinians are employed. The donation will help the families re-establish their lives and homes following the flood, in which many kitchen appliances were destroyed due to water damage. Distribution will take place through various South Carolina partner non-profits and voluntary organizations that will be rebuilding homes over the coming year.
An additional shipment of dehumidifiers from Electrolux earlier this year helped Columbia-area residents with immediate needs in the wake of the flooding.
"At Electrolux, we know our products make an everyday difference in the lives of families and individuals," said Joon So, Electrolux vice president and general manager, Cold and Home Comfort Products. "But this donation is even more meaningful to our Anderson team because we are giving back to our communities, neighbors and friends who were impacted by the flood."
"During times of disaster, it is crucial for The Salvation Army and partner agencies to help families restore their lives. In the coming months, this gift of refrigerators will help many South Carolina families rebuild," said Major Roger Coulson, regional coordinate of The Salvation Army of the Midlands. "We could not do this without community supporters like Electrolux who ensure that flood relief agencies have the means to help families and individuals impacted by the floods."
The Electrolux Anderson plant produces 15-cubic-foot, 17-cubic-foot and 18-cubic-foot top mount refrigerators and is the home to the company's North America research and development center for refrigeration.
