Electricity Storage Association Honors Industry Luminary with Annual Leadership Award
WASHINGTON, May 8, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Electricity Storage Association (ESA) is pleased to announce the 2012 recipient of the ESA's annual Phil Symons Electricity Storage Award is Terry Boston, President and Chief Executive Officer, PJM Interconnection. Mr. Boston was presented with the award at the ESA 22nd Annual Meeting, held in Washington D.C., on May 2-4, 2012.
Mr. Boston was recognized for his outstanding leadership within the energy industry, having dedicated more than forty years to the advancement of electricity grid initiatives. As the chief of PJM Interconnection, he oversees the security, reliability, and safety of the United States' bulk power system. PJM Interconnection is the largest power grid in North America and the largest electricity market in the world.

The Phil Symons Electricity Storage Award is awarded each year by the ESA. The award was created in 2006 in honor and remembrance of the leadership and vision of Dr. Phil Symons in the development and growth of ESA and the electricity storage industry. Dr. Symons was the Chairman of the ESA during a transitional time for the organization. His leadership and guidance were critical in setting the organization on a path for growth. Previous winners include John Boyes, Imre Gyuk, William Hassenzahl, Jim McDowall, Ali Nourai, Brad Roberts, and Rick Winter.
About Terry Boston:
Mr. Boston has served for over three years as CEO of PJM Interconnection. Mr. Boston is past chair of the North American Transmission Forum, dedicated to excellence in performance and sharing industry best practices. He was one of eight industry experts selected to direct the North American Reliability Corporation (NERC) investigation of the August 2003 Northeast/Midwest blackout.
Mr. Boston was chosen by Intelligent Utilities Magazine as one of its Top 11 Industry Movers and Shakers in 2011, and his leadership was instrumental to PJM winning the Platts 2010 Global Leadership Award. In 2011, Mr. Boston was honored with the "Leadership in Power" award from the IEEE Power and Energy Society.
In addition, Mr. Boston serves as a U.S. vice president of the International Council of Large Electric Systems and as vice president of the Consortium for Electric Reliability Technology Solutions.
