Elaine L. Chao, 24th U.S. Secretary of Labor, Joins Hudson Institute
Chao Served as Cabinet Secretary from 2001 to 2009; Joins Hudson as Distinguished Fellow
WASHINGTON, June 21, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Hudson Institute announced today that Elaine L. Chao, the 24th U. S. Secretary of Labor has joined Hudson as a Distinguished Fellow. At Hudson, Secretary Chao will work on issues related to strengthening the U.S. economy with a focus on employment, labor mobility, international trade, and U.S. competitiveness in a worldwide economy.

Secretary Chao is the first Asian-American woman to be appointed to the President's cabinet in our country's history. During her tenure, the U.S. Department of Labor improved workplace health and safety standards; focused on increasing the competitiveness of America's workforce; and enforced financial disclosure reporting requirements that gave workers more information on the financial condition of their unions.
Prior to leading the U.S. Department of Labor, Chao was president and CEO of United Way of America, director of the Peace Corps, deputy secretary of the Department of Transportation, chairman of the Federal Maritime Commission and White House Fellow. She also worked as vice president at Bank of America in San Francisco and at Citicorp in New York.
