El Rey Network To Air 2017 Season Of SCORE Baja 1000
The World's Toughest Point-to-Point Desert Race Now In Its 50th Year
AUSTIN, Texas, March 14, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- El Rey Network has finalized a partnership with SCORE International to air the 2017 SCORE World Desert Championship series, which will also include the historic SCORE Baja 1000 50th Anniversary race. The exclusive U.S. broadcast of the 2017 SCORE World Desert Championship series was announced today by network president and G.M., Daniel Tibbets. Taking place over the Baja, MX peninsula, the 2017 race series will culminate with the historic SCORE Baja 1000 50th anniversary event taking place in November covering over 1,300 miles between Ensenada and La Paz. This global race will encompass the most difficult terrain in Mexico's Baja California Peninsula. All five race specials will air on El Rey in 2017.
"We have seen with the success of 'Lucha Underground' that our viewers have a large appetite for exciting action combined with great story telling," remarked Tibbets. "The Baja 1000 is the world's toughest and most famous point-to-point desert race. It's like 'Mad Max: Fury Road' in race form, so bringing it to El Rey is the perfect way to expand our hi-octane programming."
Now is its 50th year, the legendary SCORE Baja 1000 has attracted the world's best racers and teams to participate in what has been described as the "Top Motorsports Event" in the world. Each special is built around the races, but includes the stories of racers and teams in each division. These are people from all walks of life and backgrounds who modify or build their own vehicles to join the race, including motorcycles, stock Volkswagen, production vehicles, buggies, trucks, and custom fabricated race vehicles. The modified cars, extreme conditions, terrain and speed lead to captivating drama and suspense.
All races in the four-race 2017 SCORE World Desert Championship, along with the special SEMA SCORE Baja 1000 Experience and qualifying for the SCORE Baja 1000 from Las Vegas Motor Speedway will air for the first time on El Rey Network.
