Eisenhower Memorial Commission Moves Forward in Design Review Process

WASHINGTON, May 18 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On May 20, 2010 the Eisenhower Memorial Commission and the National Park Service, National Capital Region will present alternative design concepts for the National Eisenhower Memorial to the Commission of Fine Arts (CFA). The CFA will consider alternative design concepts created by world-renowned architect Frank O. Gehry. A preferred design approach was unanimously selected in a meeting of the Eisenhower Memorial Commission on March 25, 2010. This is the third presentation in a series of public information sessions with local and federal review agencies.  The Eisenhower Memorial Commission will solicit comments from CFA members.  Models depicting the three alternative concepts will be available for viewing.

The Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial Commission

The Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial Commission was created by Congress in 1999 to direct and manage memorial development.  The bipartisan Commission has twelve members:  four Senators, four Representatives, and four private citizens.  It is led by Chairman Rocco Siciliano and Vice Chairman Senator Daniel Inouye (D-HI).  A location for the National Eisenhower Memorial was selected in 2005 and congressionally approved in 2006.  Frank Gehry Partners, LLP was selected from 44 architectural firms that competed to design the memorial.  Frank Gehry is one of the world's most influential architects.  For more information, please visit www.eisenhowermemorial.org
