EHE International Sponsors 100-Mile Runner, Raises Awareness for Employee-Centric Wellness Programs
100-mile Himalayan Stage Race reaches altitudes of 12,000 ft. with views of four of the world's five largest mountains.
NEW YORK, Oct. 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- EHE International, the recognized leader in preventive medicine and annual physical exams, today announced its proud support and sponsorship of American runner David Fouse in the 2014 "Himalayan 100 Mile Stage Race." Starting Oct. 16 in Maneybhanjang, India, and extending over a five-day period, David and his fellow runners will complete a 100-mile course that takes them to altitudes of 12,000 ft. with spectacular views of four of the top five world's largest mountains, including Mt. Everest.
"The Himalayan 100 Mile Stage Race is an opportunity for EHE International to bring attention to the importance of encouraging employees to engage with their physicians to establish a baseline of one's physical health," said Deborah McKeever, president and COO of EHE. "David is able to pursue his dream of running in a race in the shadows of Mt. Everest because he was able to tailor his fitness goals after a thorough examination from an EHE physician. As David's exclusive sponsor, EHE hopes his example will inspire others to take charge of their health so that they can pursue their own individual goals."
A lifelong runner, David works full-time at a public-relations firm outside Washington, D.C., and is the father of five children. While fitness has always been a part of David's life, he recently noticed that he was more fatigued and sore after his normal workouts. Earlier this year David completed a full-day physical exam at EHE's McLean, Va., location, where he learned that his body was healthy enough to endure the rigors of high-altitude running.
"I was concerned that my fatigue and soreness were symptoms of something more serious," David said. "My first inclination was to do what too many 40-something Americans do, which is to cut back on living an active lifestyle. But after my physical at EHE, I learned that the only thing wrong with me was that I didn't have the body of an 18-year-old anymore. Otherwise, there was no reason I couldn't maintain my fitness regime – and even step it up a notch."
Running a 100-mile race through the Himalayas isn't for everyone. But too many U.S employees must choose between their job and living an active lifestyle. That they often choose to forgo physical activity to the detriment of their health is one reason EHE International has chosen to sponsor David and tell his story.
Employers who create a positive and healthy work environment generally see fewer employee sick days, and help build a workforce that is healthier, happier, and more productive. Whether it's a 100-mile race or a basic lifestyle improvement, it's time for companies to ask their employees, "What's your India?"
