EEI Veteran Rick Tempchin Named to Head Institute's Retail Energy Services Division

WASHINGTON, Nov. 12, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Rick Tempchin, who has been a leading figure in electric utility energy efficiency, customer service and public policy circles for many years, has been named Executive Director of the Edison Electric Institute's Retail Energy Services Division, EEI President Tom Kuhn announced today.

Tempchin, who succeeds Diane Munns in the position, will report to David K. Owens, EEI's executive vice president, effective immediately. He will lead EEI's team of respected and seasoned retail energy service professionals.

A 23-year veteran at EEI, Tempchin is proficient in nearly every arena of retail energy services, including customer service, operations and marketing, consumer affairs, large commercial and industrial customer outreach, rate making and rate design, state regulatory advocacy, federal affairs, electric transportation, energy storage, building codes, appliance standards, demand response, efficiency, smart grid, distributed generation, technology commercialization and supplier diversity.

Prior to joining EEI, Tempchin served as a senior utility analyst for Synergic Resources Corp. and also as a research analyst at the U.S. Department of Energy. He has a B.S. in marketing from the University of Maryland and an MBA in energy management from the University of Denver.

Tempchin is a founding board member of the Association of Energy Services Professionals and a board alternate and member of the strategic planning and policy board committees of the Alliance to Save Energy, as well as a board alternate for the Electric Drive Transportation Association in Washington.

A native Washingtonian, Tempchin has three children and lives in the nation's capital with his wife, Judy Licht, a writer and photographer.
