SAN FRANCISCO, April 13 /PRNewswire/ -- EE Times, the trusted source for the global electronics industry and a division of EE Times Group, today announced version ten of the "Silicon 60" list of emerging electronics companies. Updated twice each year to reflect the latest corporate, technology and market conditions, the "Silicon 60" is the authoritative survey of technology startups worth watching.
Version ten includes 21 new startups selected from among more than 100 candidates.
The new entrants focus on a range of emerging technologies, including: memory, analog, power, power management and radio frequency ICs; MEMS, 4G communications, solar cells and photovoltaic materials, photonics, OLED displays, printed electronics, multimedia processing, printed electronics, EDA and intellectual property.
Selection to the "Silicon 60" list is based on a mix of criteria, including: technology, intended market, maturity, financial position, investment profile and executive leadership.
Since 2004, technology industry executives, venture capitalists and market analysts have looked to the "Silicon 60" as a key source for tracking promising startups that are reinvigorating the global electronics industry. Inclusion on the "Silicon 60" represents a thoroughly researched endorsement of entrepreneurs as they strive to create new technologies and business models.
"Rumors about the demise of the semiconductor venture capital market in 2009 were exaggerated," said Junko Yoshida, editor in chief of EE Times. "While it is clear that investment in capital-intensive digital technology plays has declined, there are many other electronics-related fields and companies that provide great promise. The updated version of the 'Silicon 60' reflects that promise and provides an authoritative list of technology-based companies that EE Times believes are worth following."
