WILMINGTON, Del., Oct. 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Best Counseling Degrees has announced the start of a brand-new School Counseling Scholarship program to provide financial support to graduate students who are pursuing an accredited counseling degree to guide young people's educational and vocational direction in K-12 school settings. With at least one $2,000 scholarship available, the program has been designed to encourage outstanding graduate students to positively contribute to young people's lives as a school counselor. By lowering tuition expenses, the scholarship will assist aspiring school counselors in receiving a top-notch graduate education that will open career opportunities in this extraordinary counseling profession.
"We're excited about launching this scholarship program," said representative Chris Edwards. "School counseling is one of our key areas of focus, and we're glad to be able to show our support financially."
Applicants for the School Counseling Scholarship are required to be graduate students currently attending or accepted to enroll in an accredited post-secondary institution in the United States to earn an accredited Master's or Doctoral degree in School Counseling. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better and provide support in an official transcript emailed directly from their college or university. Graduate students are also required to showcase commitment to the counseling profession through community leadership and/or participation in professional counseling activities.
Along with the completed application, students are asked to supply proof of U.S. citizenship in the form of a U.S. passport, birth certificate, or other acceptable method. Applicants must attach at least one and no more than three letters of nomination from a faculty advisor with whom he or she has worked with closely. In addition to a cover letter and resume, candidates are required to submit a personal essay of between 500 and 1,000 words detailing their career aspirations as a school counselor, reasons why they have chosen a degree in school counseling, or how they plan to make an impact on the lives of young people as a school counselor.
In order to qualify, applicants must submit a completed application and the aforementioned materials by the deadlines of April 15th and October 15th. Once all applications have been received, the Best Counseling Degrees scholarship committee will select candidates based on academic achievement, nomination letters, participation in school and/or community activities, and their personal career aspirations in the field of school counseling. Within one month of the deadline, the scholarship winner will be notified in a letter by U.S. mail and delivered a check made payable to their college or university.
