NEW YORK, Sept. 18, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Teachers Pay Teachers (TpT), the site that more than 70 percent of teachers from the U.S., Canada, and Australia rely on for education resources, today announced that Margery Mayer will join the Board of Directors as an independent director.
"We are thrilled to have Margery join our board," said Joe Holland, TpT's CEO. "She has a reputation as a problem solver who puts the needs of students and teachers first. She is motivated by the power she has seen in educator-created materials, and her perspective will add to our growing work with schools and our focus on helping teachers to teach at their best."
Mayer brings three decades of experience as an innovator in educational publishing, having led some of the top companies that provide materials to K-12 schools. She was most recently Executive Vice President at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt where she oversaw the Heinemann brand, publisher of premium educational and instructional content. She spent the majority of her career as President of Scholastic Education, a division she created which significantly increased Scholastic's business of selling directly to schools and school districts.
"We have been talking to, learning from, and inspired by Margery for some time," said Adam Freed, TpT's Executive Board Chair. "Her values align with TpT's — she's very focused on supporting teachers and their needs — and her experience will help us support even more schools who need teacher-tested content that engages students and meets them where they are."
Mayer began her career as a student-teacher. "I thought then, and I continue to believe, that great classroom experiences start with a supported and empowered teacher. TpT teacher-authors have created millions of powerful, classroom-tested materials that teachers want and need. I couldn't be more excited to join TpT's mission of making these incredible materials available in more and more schools and classrooms," said Mayer.
Mayer is a graduate of Middlebury College and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). She has two children and four grandchildren.
Mayer's term is effective immediately.
