Education Advocates Gather to Discuss Removing Racial Barriers in Education at W.K. Kellogg Foundation's America Healing Convening
NEW ORLEANS, April 25, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A panel of education advocates will address proactive means to transform the learning environment so that all children have an opportunity to thrive and succeed. This panel will focus on the embedded relationship of race and education inequality and lift up how racism is at the center of our conversation on education reform. In addition, it will look at how the intersection of race and class create unfair barriers for low-income communities of color and discuss what to do about it. If America is to succeed in the future and remain a leading nation in the world, then the education of all children must be at the top of our national agenda.

The W.K. Kellogg Foundation (WKKF), founded in 1930 as an independent, private foundation by breakfast cereal pioneer, Will Keith Kellogg, is among the largest philanthropic foundations in the United States. Guided by the belief that all children should have an equal opportunity to thrive, WKKF works with communities to create conditions for vulnerable children so they can realize their full potential in school, work and life.
The Kellogg Foundation is based in Battle Creek, Mich., and works throughout the United States and internationally, as well as with sovereign tribes. Special emphasis is paid to priority places where there are high concentrations of poverty and where children face significant barriers to success. WKKF priority places in the U.S. are in Michigan, Mississippi, New Mexico and New Orleans; and internationally, are in Mexico and Haiti. For more information, visit www.wkkf.org.
