EDM invests £1m in new CNC machines to support growth
MANCHESTER, England, October 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/ --
EDM, a leading global provider of training simulators to the civil aviation and defence sectors, announced today that it has invested £1m in a suite of new CNC machines to support its strong growth.
Purchased over the past 12 months to help meet the demands of EDM's rapidly growing order book, the four new CNC machines enable the company to design and manufacture any component required for its range of market-leading training simulators for the civil aviation and defence markets. The new machines have already significantly improved manufacturing times and reduced reliance on third party component suppliers. The new CNC machines comprise:
- Mazak VTC-800
- Mazak VTC-760
- Mazak VCN-530C
- Mazak Variaxis i-500
The new state-of-the-art CNC machines are supported by the company's existing CNC machining capability and suite of manual milling and turning machines. The investment in this new equipment has enabled the current manual machinist team to be upskilled whilst also creating a number of new roles.
"These are exciting times for our new generation machining centre," said Steve Grundy, EDM's Head of Production. "Our advancements in tool holding and improved cutter technology coupled with our new machine capability is allowing us to push the boundaries. On a daily basis our workforce is gaining smarter and leaner methods of machining which is driving even greater efficiency gains."
"This significant investment in our machining capability further demonstrates our commitment to providing our customers with the very best training simulators on the market," said Tony Bermingham, Managing Director of EDM. "As our business grows rapidly we will continue to invest in the best equipment available to support our market-leading position."
