The "letters" go into great detail about significant events in American history and provide a genuine look at day-to-day life during this time period. John Bemrose leaves his home in England and travels to America, joining the American Army where he eventually fights in the Seminole Indian Wars.
Authors and ancestors, The French Family decided to leave the spellings and grammar as they were written in order to preserve the authenticity of the writing. Rosemary explains, "It was decided that we should keep this account as close as possible to the original with regard to punctuation, grammar, the language of the day and place names."
The authors add, "Copies of these letters have been passed down through our family for generations and we felt that they were so historically important that they should be shared with others." It is not known where his original letters and diaries are, they appear to be lost in time
John Bemrose goes into remarkable detail about topics such as sea travel, slavery, the Indian Wars. He describes his lengthy voyage from England to New York on the Constellation, a voyage which cost, in that day, anywhere from 3 to 10 Pounds Sterling. John pawns his gold watch and sells some clothing to get the money.
The book is available at the Bookpal website, Amazon.com and other fine booksellers.
