David K. Owens, Executive Vice President of Business Operations Group and Regulatory Affairs, Edison Electric Institute, said, "Now is a critical time as utilities explore new business models that will address how to most effectively manage the growing presence of energy efficiency, distributed generation and renewables on the modern, increasingly decentralized, electricity grid."
Owens continued, "The Energy Times' Chicago conference is a most timely exploration of how one of the nation's major utilities, Chicago's Commonwealth Edison, is working with city officials, academic and cultural institutions and entrepreneurs to proactively make major changes in its service offerings and customer outreach. The conference will also explore innovations by utilities around the nation – and even globally."
EEI has agreed to be an association sponsor of the event and encourage participation by its membership.
Leaders from the City of Chicago will join utility trailblazers from around the country, Hong Kong and Amsterdam as well as top regulators in Illinois and the Federal Energy Regulatory commission for the event.
The event has been developed to change the energy conversation and chart a course for the future on energy usage and delivery. The event will take place November 4-6, 2015 in Chicago. Empowering Customers & Cities is designed for energy ecosystem participants, including utilities, policy makers, energy equipment providers and large energy consumers to collaborate on transforming energy use and spurring economic development in the process.
EEI members provide electricity for 220 million Americans, operate in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, and directly employ more than 500,000 workers. In addition, EEI has 70 international electric companies as Affiliate Members, and 250 industry suppliers and related organizations as Associate Members. EEI's mission is to ensure members' success by advocating public policy, expanding market opportunities, and providing strategic business information.
"We are thrilled that the Edison Electric Institute is onboard Empowering Customers & Cities as a sponsor," said Marty Rosenberg, Editorial Director, The Energy Times and Co-Chair, Empowering Customers & Cities. "They have a clear understanding of the mission of our event. We look forward to working with them closely as we gear up to bring all of our powerful speakers to the energy industry." Also co-chairing the event is Anne Pramaggiore, ComEd president and CEO.
Other Empowering Customers & Cities sponsors include: ComEd, Kansas City Power & Light, Burns & McDonnell, Oracle Utilities, S & C Electric Company, Quanta Services, Silver Spring Networks, E Source and ISEN Institute for Sustainability and Energy at Northwestern.
