Ed Rosenthal Rocks 420 in San Francisco at April 20th Book Signing at 4:20 p.m. at Book Passage
420 means "time to get high"; Coined in 1971 by teens in San Rafael, CA who met after school at 4:20 p.m. to smoke pot; 420 was then picked up by The Grateful Dead and others (signifying "pot friendly"), and April 20th has since become a global celebration of cannabis
OAKLAND, Calif., March 31, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Ed Rosenthal's Marijuana Grower's Handbook (Quick American Publishing, 2010, $29.95 paperback) is the most comprehensive reference manual of its type and is the culmination of Ed's more than 35 years of cannabis cultivation, education and experience. He is celebrating 420 and the publication of his book at a book signing at Book Passage at the Ferry Building in San Francisco on April 20th at 4:20 pm, followed by an appearance as a special guest of Ngaio Bealum for the Puff Puff Laugh at the Punchline in San Francisco at 8:00 pm.
"Mr. Rosenthal is the pothead's answer to Ann Landers, Judge Judy, Martha Stewart and the Burpee Garden Wizard all in one." - NY Times (1/21/03).
In 510 pages and five parts with hundreds of gorgeous photos, the book progresses logically from basic information about plants to the harvest of a successful crop. It is designed to be a powerful tool for both amateur and experienced growers. The easy to understand and follow sections include: Part I: Marijuana the Plant, II: What are Plants & What Do They Want?, III: Setting Up Your Garden, IV: Let's Get Growing!, and V: Harvest & Beyond. The book includes an extensive glossary and pest and disease control appendix.
"This book will turn any gardener, even a beginner, into a great grower. I explain everything, from plant varieties and life cycle, through light and soil tips, new equipment and technology, pest eradication and harvesting methods," Rosenthal said.
"If you only own one book about cannabis, this is the one to have," - Steve Kubby, American Medical Marijuana Association
Also in the book, Rosenthal explains in detail the important legal and security concerns that home growers face. Laws vary from state to state. "There is considerable ambiguity in the U.S. about cultivation, possession, and use of cannabis -- medical or recreational. The first thing to do before you start growing is to make sure you understand the law and your rights where you live," Rosenthal writes in the book.
Ed Rosenthal's Marijuana Grower's Handbook is the official course book of Oaksterdam University in Oakland, CA where Rosenthal has been an instructor and guest speaker for several years.
"Ed Rosenthal is the expert grower who holds the distinction of turning more people on to more pot than Cheech and Chong" - Tommy Chong
Anyone purchasing a book at the signing will receive a free sample of Ed's Zero Tolerance natural pesticide.
About Ed Rosenthal
Ed Rosenthal, 66, the "Guru of Ganga," has been at the forefront of public policy development for the civil regulation and legalization of marijuana for more than 35 years.
In 2003, Rosenthal was tried in federal court for cultivation. He was convicted by a jury that was not allowed to hear that he was deputized by the City of Oakland to provide marijuana for patients -- an omission that later caused his jurors to denounce their verdict. Rosenthal is currently a sought-after consultant, advising citizens, activists and politicians around the U.S. who are working on a variety of marijuana issues and legislation.
Rosenthal was involved with the creation of High Times magazine in 1972 and his "Ask Ed" columns continue to be syndicated globally.
He was a primary force in the passage of California's pioneering Proposition 215 in 1996, which legalized the medical use of marijuana. He is the executive director of Green Aid: The Medical Marijuana Legal Defense and Education Fund, Inc., a 501(c)(3) charitable corporation, and is an instructor at Oaksterdam University in Oakland, CA where he teaches marijuana horticulture classes.
Rosenthal is the author of more than a dozen books that cumulatively have sold more than two million copies.
