SAO PAULO, Aug. 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- (SET, Expo Center Norte, Booth #G11) -- ATEME, a global leader in advanced video compression solutions for the broadcast industry, announced today that Ecuavisa, the leading free-to-air broadcaster in Ecuador, has selected ATEME's Kyrion encoders to launch its high-definition digital terrestrial service.
- In 2010, Ecuador selected the ISDB-T standard for its transition to digital terrestrial television – Ecuavisa, the leading commercial broadcaster in the country in terms of prime time audience ratings, demonstrated an early commitment to this transition project; its high definition digital service has been on air over the cities of Quito and Guayaquil since May 2013 and coverage will expand to other parts of Ecuador in the future.
- Kyrion AM2102 encoder chosen for reliability – ATEME's Kyrion AM series received ISDB-T certification in 2008 and is today the single most deployed encoder for digital terrestrial broadcasting in Latin America with hundreds of installations in the sub-continent.
- Ecuatronix provides system integration – ATEME's local partner Ecuatronix was contracted by Ecuavisa to deploy an integrated digital head-end system around the Kyrion encoder from ATEME and the ISMUXTM ISDB-T multiplexer from Hitachi Linear, to broadcast HD, SD and One-seg simultaneously. This new system was put on air this August 2014.
A spokesperson from the radiofrequency and engineering department at Ecuavisa said:
"Since 2012 we have been actively evaluating solutions for digital television in preparation for this important launch. ATEME was selected for its proven ISDBT encoding technology."
