PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa., July 10, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- ECRI Institute, one of the nation's leading patient safety and medical technology research organizations, is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard M. Arons, ScD, managing director at Korn Ferry, as new board chair. Dr. Arons succeeds John B. Reiss, PhD, JD, who retired after holding the position for 18 years.
Dr. Reiss, currently vice president and general counsel of Doylestown Hospital, guided ECRI Institute through an important time of transition and growth, beginning when its founder and CEO stepped down in 2001. Dr. Arons' extensive medical device and diagnostics expertise encompasses medical and surgical devices, medical equipment and instrumentation, diagnostics, and drug delivery systems. He has worked with Global 1000 and Fortune 500 companies, as well as start-up and fast-growth companies.
Other board appointments include David L. Mayer, PhD, as board co-chair. Dr. Mayer is chief executive officer of the Washington Metrorail Safety Commission. Previously, he held top leadership positions with the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and the National Transportation Safety Board.
The elected secretary, Stephen H. Lockhart, MD, PhD, is chief medical officer for Sutter Health, a not-for-profit system of hospitals, physician organizations, and research institutions in Northern California.
Treasurer Grant Bagley, MD, JD, has decades of valuable experience, including as a former chief medical officer of the Health Care Financing Administration, now known as the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and former managing partner in Arnold & Porter LLP's health care law group.
"ECRI Institute is excited about the future direction of healthcare, and the new officers reflect this focus," states Dr. Schabacker. "As we continue to develop new ways to improve the safety and effectiveness of healthcare, the experience from our outstanding board members will be invaluable to the organization."
