SANTA CLARA, Calif., Dec. 19, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Internet of Things pioneer Echelon Corporation (NASDAQ: ELON) today announced that EdisonReport has recognized Echelon's InSight Cognitive Vision System (CVS) as one of the 10 best lighting products of 2017. Each year EdisonReports reviews hundreds of notable products launched at the leading light industry shows around the world.
"Having the team at EdisonReport choose our cognitive vision-based technology for the Top 10 Best Products list is quite an honor considering the many innovative lighting products on the market," said Sohrab Modi, CTO and Senior Vice President of Engineering, Echelon Corp. "Our mission is to enable municipalities and campuses to leverage their existing infrastructures so they can avoid unnecessary, costly investments while benefitting from the promise of IoT. We developed this cognitive AI vision technology to enable a municipal streetlight system to host an increasingly broad array of smart city solutions."
The Echelon InSight CVS utilizes artificial intelligence in vision-enabled edge devices, optimized for Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) applications. With this patent-pending technology, data is collected and processed at the edge of the network instead of on a central server, minimizing demands on network bandwidth. It uses the Lumewave by Echelon® lighting platform to transmit information, creating an architecture that enables faster decision-making in response to changing conditions. For example, the cognitive vision system can be deployed on intersection streetlights where it will analyze traffic flows and automatically adjust light levels accordingly, triggering higher levels during peak volumes and lower levels during non-peak periods.
