SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 8, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Internet of Things pioneer Echelon Corporation (NASDAQ: ELON) makes EdisonReport's top 10 MUST SEE list with its new InSight Cognitive Vision System. The artificial intelligence technology helps smart cities improve safety by enabling applications like traffic adaptive lighting, while reducing outdoor lighting cost. Each Spring, the EdisonReport evaluates hundreds of products from a wide range of companies and chooses the top 10 MUST SEE products, giving Echelon the honor for the second consecutive year.
The Echelon InSight system utilizes artificial intelligence in vision-enabled edge devices, optimized for Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) applications. With this patent-pending technology, data is collected and processed at the edge of the network instead of on a central server, minimizing demands on network bandwidth. It uses the Lumewave by Echelon® lighting platform to transmit information, creating an architecture that enables faster decision-making in response to changing conditions. For example, the cognitive vision system can be deployed on intersection streetlights where it will analyze traffic flows and automatically adjust light levels accordingly, triggering higher levels during peak hours and lower levels during non-peak hours.
EdisonReport's 2017 Judges were Dan Blitzer, LC, FIES, Principal of The Practical Lighting Workshop, LLC, Jay Goodman, Founder of LumenOptix and Principal of Goodman and Co., Peter Jacobson, Lighting Specialist at Con Edison, Lana Lenar, Principal at zeroLUX lighting design and Randy Reid, Editor of the EdisonReport.
"Having the team at EdisonReport put our cognitive vision-based technology on the short list is quite an honor considering the many innovative lighting products on the market," said Sohrab Modi, CTO and Senior Vice President of Engineering, Echelon Corp. "Our mission is to enable municipalities and campuses to leverage their existing infrastructures so they can avoid unnecessary, costly investments while benefitting from the promise of IoT. The InSight Cognitive Vision System supports customers as they embark on that journey."
Echelon's new product can be seen at LIGHTFAIR, May 9-11, 2017 in Philadelphia at booth 563.
About EdisonReport's Top 10 MUST SEE Products
With so many new products every Spring, EdisonReport has traditionally highlighted what we believe are the "Top 10 MUST SEE" products. By being online and real-time, EdisonReport is able to evaluate products days before the start of the show as opposed to most award programs that require submittals up to three months prior. Our team of judges considers products that may not have been ready for submittal earlier in the year.
