eBay, VMware, Raritan and Other Experts Weigh in on How Best to Bring Power to Data Center Racks
-- A Panel Discussion on Off-the-Shelf vs. Customized Power Infrastructure Equipment --
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Feb. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Raritan, a leading provider of Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) and rack power distribution solutions, will be moderating a customer panel of data center experts on how best to design rack power and cooling to make data centers reliable, responsive and future proofed.
The lively 30-minute panel session "Off-the-Shelf vs. Customized Power and Rack Infrastructure" will be held on February 18 from 1 - 1:30 pm in Hall 2 at the Teladata Technology Convergence Conference (TCC) in Santa Clara.
With proven track records from running some of the most innovative, dynamic and fastest-growing data centers and labs in the world -- including data centers at eBay, Cisco and VMware -- the panel of experts will share their views on how to select and deploy rack power equipment in order to:
- Optimize available power, cooling and space.
- Future proof racks with enough capacity headroom to support server/compute changes and growth, and future technological advances.
- Reduce OPEX and CAPEX.
- Meet SLAs and avoid potential outages by, for example, implementing phase balance across six circuits, and by using energy reporting and monitoring tools with alerts.
- Support higher, more-efficient power distribution, such as 400V.
The experts also will share best practices and simple helpful tips, such as using colored electrical distribution products to identify circuits quickly; aligning rack PDU outlets closer to the servers they power; standardizing on server cord lengths to minimize the sorting and picking of correct cable lengths; and, minimizing network drops to racks.
"Whether renovating a current data center or building a new one, how you bring power to your racks will impact project requirements and affect future capacity and growth," says Jawahar Swaminathan, Director of Energy Management Solutions at Raritan, who will be moderating the panel session. "We are pleased to join our customers in examining the latest trends, technologies and best practices for powering data centers and the merits of off-the-shelf versus custom power and rack infrastructure solutions."
Raritan, a Platinum sponsor of the TCC conference, will be showing in Booth #145 its extensive portfolio of rack iPDUs (intelligent power distribution units), DCIM software, and other solutions to manage data center resources efficiently. Raritan offers both off-the-shelf and custom rack power products to help data center operators meet the complex and unique power requirements of their data center equipment racks.
Raritan's iPDU portfolio, with more than 625 unique models, is the largest in the industry. The custom capabilities of Raritan's Build-to-Order program provide customers with even more options. Under the program, customers can select PDU options in a number of categories -- such as plug type, input cord length, outlet type and number of outlets, voltage, current, single-phase or three-phase Wye or Delta configurations, and colors (10 vibrant colors).
