BOSTON, July 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Eaton Vance Municipal Income Trust (NYSE: EVN) (the "Trust"), a diversified closed-end management investment company, today announced the earnings of the Trust for the three months ended February 28, 2014. The Trust's fiscal year ends on November 30, 2014.
For the three months ended February 28, 2014, the Trust had net investment income of $5,165,133 ($0.221 per common share). From this amount, the Trust paid dividends on preferred shares of $27,080 (equal to $0.001 for each common share), resulting in net investment income after the preferred dividends of $5,138,053, or $0.220 per common share. In comparison, for the three months ended February 28, 2013, the Trust had net investment income of $5,033,621 ($0.221 per common share). From this amount, the Trust paid dividends on preferred shares of $56,442 (equal to $0.002 for each common share), resulting in net investment income after the preferred dividends of $4,977,179, or $0.219 per common share.
Net realized and unrealized gains for the three months ended February 28, 2014 were $17,708,660 ($0.757 per common share). In comparison, net realized and unrealized losses for the three months ended February 28, 2013 were $4,966,437 ($0.218 per common share).
On February 28, 2014, net assets of the Trust applicable to common shares were $264,247,290. The net asset value per common share on February 28, 2014 was $11.29 based on 23,395,812 common shares outstanding. In comparison, on February 28, 2013, net assets of the Trust applicable to common shares were $299,442,666. The net asset value per common share on February 28, 2013 was $13.13 based on 22,809,872 common shares outstanding.
